The main objective of the project is to solve the problems of collecting and integrating geographic and historical information with the help of an engineering ontology. The ontology is focussed on:

• types of locality and settlement units
• types of administration units (both civil and ecclesiastical) that occurred in the Polish lands until 1939.

The OntoHGIS domain ontology is being developed in cooperation between the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (Humanities Research Data Lab) and the Tadeusz Manteuffel Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Department of Historical Atlas).

Implementation

Głównym celem projektu jest rozwiązanie problemów związanych z gromadzeniem i integracją informacji o charakterze geograficzno-historycznym.

Przedmiotem ontologii dziedzinowej (geograficzno-historycznej) są:

• typy miejscowości oraz jednostek osadniczych
• typy jednostek administracji terytorialnej (państwowej i kościelnej), tzw. podziałów podstawowych, które występowały na ziemiach polskich do 1939 r.

Ontologia dziedzinowa OntoHGIS jest rozwijana we współpracy Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego (Laboratorium Humanistycznych Danych Badawczych) oraz Instytutu Historii PAN (Zakład Atlasu Historycznego).
